The Big Apple BBQ Block Party

This June, the Big Apple BBQ Block Party, held in New York's Madison Square Park, celebrated its 10th anniversary. The festival gets better every year, and we celebrated by bringing the Green Olive staff up for the party. A few of the many highlights:

Whole hog sandwiches from Pat Martin and Martin's BBQ (Nolensville, TN) are always tough to beat. And special thanks to Martin's crew for keeping the cooler incredibly well-stocked:

This was the first year that our man Rodney Scott (Hemingway, SC) cooked, and he delivered in a big way with whole hog:

Sam Jones, of the Skylight Inn (Ayden, NC) was on hand to help Mr. Scott with the hogs:

Don't forget Ed Mitchell (Raleigh/Durham, NC), cooking - what else - whole hogs:

After all that barbecue, it's always wise to spend some time with Julian Van Winkle (he of Pappy Van Winkle fame) and have a couple of bourbons. The guy also rocks the cowbell:

And what do the Green Olive folks do after an all-day BBQ fest? Head to Momofuku for a whole pork shoulder:

Eleven Madison Park - New York, NY

Thanks to all the folks at Eleven Madison Park for serving us what was easily one of the best meals we've had all year. Here's the menu - just pick one item from each category:

Cobia - the best piece of fish I've had in recent memory:

The classic black and white cookie - only these were made with parmesan and black truffle:

And the real highlight - hanging out in the kitchen while they made us a couple of those liquid nitrogen cocktails:

The Bar Sign At The John Dory - New York, NY

One of our favorite new restaurant signs - if you enter the John Dory Oyster Bar through the back entrance inside the Ace Hotel, you're treated to this beauty. Click the image below to see it in action:
