We had a great dinner at Craft last night courtesy of Tom Colicchio and Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver...the highlight? Brooklyn's 'Reinschweinsgebot,' otherwise known as the beer made with Benton's Bacon. Only 15 gallons were ever made, so we were lucky to be able to dip into Oliver's private stash. The full rundown on the beer:
"This is a brown ale aged for nine months in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. The beer has been fat-washed with fat rendered from bacon from Benton's Country Smokehouse. Allan Benton also produced a smoked malt for the creation. The beer is then re-fermented in the bottle."
