From George Motz's endlessly entertaining blog, check out a clip of J. Wellington Wimpy cooking a burger on the flattop. Why does Bluto always gotta be like that?

D-Day for the Piggies.
I just hung up with Sean Brock (McCrady's) and today is the D-Day for the piggies. The Brock-fed pigs are meeting their maker this morning. Sean is on his way from Wadmalaw Island to the processor complete with a horse trailer hooked to the back of his truck...that is me on the left and Sean on the right above...tough love

Hot Chicken, Hot Dogs and Tennessee Truffles
A few recent Nashville highlights...first up, the legendary Prince's Hot Chicken. See here for a great short film on the place.
Hot dog from Zackie's:
The special at Miro District on Friday night was a tagliatelle featuring Tennessee truffles. See here for a cool NY Times piece on the truffles.
Check out the recession special at Robert's Western World, perhaps the greatest bar anywhere. Where else can you get a bologna sandwich, beer and a Goo Goo Cluster for $5, shop for a new pair of boots, and hear a honky-tonk band play a song written by one of your favorite chefs?
A growler of Yazoo 'Hop Project' and a shot of their incredibly cool building:
Taco from Taqueria Dona - pretty good, but nowhere near the quality of the Mariscos Y Tacos truck just down Nolensville Road:

Capitol Grille Does Sponge Bob Cakes
Apparently fine Thanksgiving food is not all that the Hermitage Hotel's Capitol Grille does well -- kid cakes?
I think we will plan Will's 4th birthday party there -- in the kitchen no less!

A Trip To The Florida Panhandle
See the next several posts below for a few of the highlights of our recent staff trip to the Florida panhandle...
Paul Gant's BBQ - Port St. Joe, FL
What else can we say about this place that we haven't said before? Truly the greatest barbecue anywhere:
Where the magic happens:
Where the magic happens:
Indian Pass Raw Bar - Port St. Joe, FL
One of our all-time favorite restaurants...Indian Pass Raw Bar. We can't decide what's the best part about the place - the baked oysters, drowned in butter and parmesan, or the shrimp stuffed with crab. Ah, who are we kidding...our favorite part is the self-serve beer cooler - drink beer to your heart's content, then just tell them how many you had when they're ringing you up.
Sportsmans Banquet - Port St. Joe, FL
Here are a few shots from the Sportsman's Banquet, held out in the middle of nowhere in a field in Florida - sadly, we failed to get any shots of the firearm auction...
GOM staff enjoying the 'no man left hungry' steaks:
The remnants of our staff's oyster shucking stint:
One way to keep your steaks warm until serving time - this cooler was holding about 200 pounds of meat:
Oysters taste even better served from a box:

Old Ice House - Marianna, FL
The photos pretty much speak for themselves - fried seafood platters, plenty of taxidermy (and in-store advertising for their services) - what's not to like?
